The Business Senior Director, Health System Performance Improvement will be involved in sales, delivery of transformational projects supporting inpatient and ambulatory care management and clinical variation for Optum's long term client partnerships and commercial clients. The Senior Director is responsible for leading a team and partnering with client leadership and Optum professionals ensuring they are meeting established expectations. The leader will coordinate with the onsite and remote teams across all functions of the program including analytics, improvement initiatives, project management, change management, physician alignment, results measurement, executive reporting, and performance sustainability. The Senior Director will partner closely with the client executive clinical and operational leadership to ensure the partnership results are achieved and sustained.

The role of the transformational team is to design, implement and sustain a comprehensive system-wide improvement plan targeting clinical, operational, and financial efficiency opportunities within care delivery. The transformational team will align Optum care solutions with the client opportunities, continuously driving measurable results in a highly complex environment. Successful performance will be achieved through establishing a consistent, high quality care delivery model that aligns physicians, clinicians, and other key stakeholders, leveraging client leadership and Optum clinical systems to achieve industry leading outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partners with Optum sales team for commercial and long-term partnership clients for an overall clinical transformation effort, including proposals, service line agreements, and financial outcomes with client alignment
  • Creates a trusted partner relationship with client executives and is seen as a partner in the successful design and implementation of the transformation program
  • Supervises and accountable for clinical consulting staff and partners with business units throughout Optum involved in the implementation of the clinical transformation program
  • Develops and delivers clear and concise updates to senior leadership at the client site and within Optum
  • Builds and monitors program budget, client budget and return on investment progress to ensure meeting contractual agreement along with Optum onsite leadership
  • Presents to large groups well and has the ability to adjust message to audience (CEO, CMO, CFO and other system clinical leaders)
  • Participates as a member of various Optum teams to create innovative solutions associated with the strategic development of client programs

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience with management experience in a hospital setting
  • 7+ years of inpatient clinical performance improvement in the areas of clinical variation or care management in the hospital setting
  • Solid financial, sales and budgeting experience
  • Travel up to 50- 80% for client or internal meetings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Business Administration; Master of Health Administration
  • Hospital operations or care management and/or leading complex clinical transformation consulting engagements resulting in significant recurring financial benefit
  • Developing clinical transformation methodologies and designing innovative solutions in a complex and rapidly changing environment, including achievement of financial savings
  • Demonstrated self-starter with solid planning organization, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proven track record of building and influencing relationships with external and internal executives and stakeholders, as well as leading, influencing and managing a large matrix workforce
  • Solid presentation, written and verbal communication skills, including well-developed interpersonal skills
  • History of driving initiatives and achieving performance goals across complex organizations

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $134,200 to $257,700. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $134,200 to $257,700.
