Intralox LLC, a leader in product-handling technology for food processing, manufacturing, and logistics, is looking for a Controls Engineer for our Manufacturing Engineering Group (MEG). MEG handles the design and build of automation solutions for Intralox Manufacturing globally. The successful candidate will be a highly talented and self-managed individual who gets a charge out of bringing automation projects to life.

The Controls Engineer will be responsible for developing controls architecture, schematics, software, user interface, and data collection for new automation. Ideal candidate must be end user focused. He / She will collaborate with mechanical engineers, technicians, and members of the production staff to develop robust solutions for Intralox Manufacturing. It's a challenging and fun role!

Responsibilities
  • Design complete control systems for the Intralox production equipment, including (but not limited to) the following:
    • Systems architecture
    • Power distribution and control panel design
    • Specify controls components and develop parts lists with recommended spares
    • Perform risk assessments, specify safeguards, and specify safety components
    • Writing code for PLC, HMI, vision, robot and other necessary programs
    • Delivers clear documentation packages including electrical and pneumatic schematics
  • Collaborate with the production team to develop and execute installation plans for the system
  • Actively participate in design reviews
  • Perform the testing, troubleshooting, production startup, and training of equipment
  • Research and remain current on industry standards related to industrial production equipment (NEC, RIA, CE, UL)
  • Assist and mentor technicians with best practices
  • Work with integrators on outsourced projects
  • Work with automation/controls vendors for the build of wired control boxes
  • Work independently to plan and schedule own activities necessary to meet project timelines

Requirements
  • B.S. in Engineering or Computer Science
  • High level of analytical ability and creativity where problems are unusual and difficult
  • 6-10+ Years experience with controls design for automation (PLCs, HMIs, Robotics)
  • Demonstrated desire to learn new technologies related to controls and automation
  • Experience with design of multiple platform systems integration
  • Some on-call time required during startup and transfer to customer
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • General computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, databases)
  • People skills (presentations, gathering feedback, etc)
  • Must work well in a team environment
  • Ability to travel as needed (5% - 10%)

Desired Qualifications
  • Proficiency with AutoCad Electrical
  • Experience with Allen Bradley and Beckhoff controllers
  • Experience with Ignition SCADA Software
  • Experience with Fanuc, Staubli, and/or Wittmann robots
  • Experience with Cognex and/or Keyence machine vision systems
  • Experience with building control systems which integrate industrial robots, robotic actuators, pneumatic actuators, sensors and vision systems
  • Demonstrates efficient coding practices in both Ladder Logic (PLC) and Text based programing (Robot)
  • Is end user focused - develops controls systems and human interfaces that keep the end user's needs, skills, and perspective in mind
