POSITION PURPOSE/MISSION:

Grow through Charter's Internship values of communication, high expectations, accountability, responsibility, teamwork, exposure to business, and real-word work experience. Become part of the department while being exposed to varying issues. Assist and/or lead multiple projects supporting the different facets of the business. Collaborate directly with other employees and work on projects independently. This opportunity will provide experience through involvement in many aspects of Charter Wire's safety program, including: administrative functions, auditing, continuous improvement projects, and safety training. The Safety Intern will become part of the Safety Department and will assist with championing organizational excellence in safety. As a safety professional, this individual will work closely with Operations and support departments by assisting in the identification of risk and implementation of safety controls to mitigate. They will also be involved with safety team support, safety program reviews, procedure updates and safety data sheet management. The Safety Intern's basic function will be to provide administrative and project support to the Safety Department on a flexible part time basis during the school year and a full time basis during the summer months.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enrollment in a four-year degree program in Occupational Safety or a related field with current status of at least a Sophomore level.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • Demonstrated software application skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Base knowledge of OSHA Standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Safety improvement projects.
  • Assist in managing/auditing safety programs.
  • Assist in developing and delivering Safety Training.
  • Conduct Accident Investigations and Follow-ups.
  • Be a resource for the plant Safety Team.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SUPERVISION:

  • None.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to: Safety and Environmental Engineer
