Construction Materials Testing Technician

S&ME is seeking Construction Materials Testing Technicians eager to gain experience working on aviation projects throughout the Charlotte, NC market. As an Aviation Construction Materials Testing Technician, you will have the opportunity to be a part of a team that provides full-service construction materials testing, geotechnical, and environmental services to small and large airports across the southeast. Our team is focused on growth within the aviation marketplace and we need dedicated, hardworking and skilled technicians to ensure the project is built right. S&ME is a leader in the aviation market with more than 4 years of current booked work.


Your Day-to-Day:

  • Review construction plans and specifications to ensure seamless alignment with on-site observations
  • Conduct as well as observe testing and inspections of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, and other relevant materials, to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards
  • Utilize advanced software like Metafield to document reporting and testing results
  • Calibrate equipment to industry standards to ensure precision in testing processes
  • Conduct Special Inspection observations to enforce regulatory compliance and quality assurance on projects
  • Maintain open communication with stakeholders to foster trust and transparency, driving success of our projects

What You Bring:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 2+ years of experience in construction materials testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials or equivalent experience and an associate degree in a related field.
  • Proficiently complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device, using Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Effective math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
  • One or More Active Certification(s) Required:
    • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician; DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs. (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Traveling out-of-town (may include overnight) for assignments as necessary.
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary.
