HDR is looking for a Principal Site Civil Engineer for our South Atlantic Building Engineering Services (BES) Team. Principal Site Civil Engineers are leaders in the Site Civil practice who help drive project delivery, influence culture, morale, and recruiting, as well as provide significant leadership and influence related to client relationships, pursuits, and HDR's ability to win work. On a day-to-day basis, they'll be expected to:

  • Function as a technical lead on large, complex site development projects.
  • Manage workflow and tasks for site civil project staff on development of construction drawings, specifications, and supporting engineering calculations, as well as the review of shop drawings during construction.
  • Understand all facets of the building design process and project delivery including how cross-discipline teams function.
  • Provide leadership for not only the site civil discipline but act more broadly as a leader for our entire facility design practice including facilitating clear communication and providing leadership for all disciplines on the project team.
  • Mentor and develop the next generation of leadership at HDR by developing technical, client, and business acumen in other staff.
  • Represent HDR through participation in the professional and local community by partaking in speaking engagements, author white papers and technical publications and engaging on industry and community boards.
  • Develop and foster relationships with our internal and external clients.
  • Support business development, help identify and pursue opportunities.
  • Participate in proposals and interviews to win work.
  • Some regional/national travel will be expected.

Required Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • 20 years of experience in site development and civil design
  • PE license
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills. The ability to thrive in a team environment
  • Familiarity with Civil 3D
  • Expert knowledge of Civil Engineering modeling software such as Hydraflow Storm Sewers, Hydraflow Hydrographs, HydroCAD, Bentley StormCAD, etc.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture

Preferred Qualifications

  • 20 years of experience in site development and civil design
  • Strong operating knowledge of Civil 3D
  • MS Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Local candidates are preferred
