Purpose of the Job

The IT Field Tech Engineer I provides service and staff support during field visits or dispatches. This position performs on site installation, repair, maintenance, and testing or validation tasks. This position works with other IT Field Tech Engineers, IT Service Desk staff, Telecom staff, IT Security, and IT Infrastructure Engineers to maintain all Credit Union software and hardware. The IT Field Tech Engineer I provides support for escalated issues from IT Field Tech Engineers and the IT Service Desk staff that cannot be resolved remotely and requires onsite support, being responsible for diagnosing errors or technical problems and determining proper solutions during those field visits. The IT Field Tech Engineer I position will assist with Branch build projects throughout their life cycle.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Handles escalated issues requiring field visits to support teammates and end users. Deploys new systems and devices for end users. Offers in person technical support, training and assists end user on devices. Travels to branch offices as required to setup equipment in a new branch, or assisting with moving equipment when a branch relocates. Manages hardware installations to support new Branch openings. Serves as a resource for moves, additions and changes across the organization. Provides support to IT Field Tech Engineer I, IT Service Desk Engineers and IT Infrastructure Engineers to identify, research, and resolve technical and software-related problems for end users. Installs, updates, and troubleshoots Windows 10 operating systems as well as desktop, zero/thin client, laptop hardware, mobile devices, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). Installs & supports network-based printers & copiers. Troubleshoots network switches, firewalls and Wi-Fi equipment. Accurately logs calls and troubleshooting steps into the IT Service Desk ticketing system. Assists with supporting telecommunications local area and wide area networks, including voice and data. Communicates with vendors as issues arise with 3rd party vendor applications. Troubleshoots and maintains (24x7) systems and network communications including voice, data, and ATM network. Assesses technical needs due to changing work environments and audit requirements. Assists the Director, IT Support Services with day-to-day activities as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have familiarity with Network topology and use of various network tools and command line capabilities
  • Must have ability to work flexible shifts and to adapt to changing work schedules
  • Must have ability to multi-task
  • Must have an understanding of data management
  • Advanced knowledge of Desktop Operating Systems from Microsoft Windows, particularly Windows 10
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Desktop applications, specifically Office platforms, Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome
  • Must be adept at reading, writing, and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals
  • Must have ability to conduct research into hardware and software issues and products
  • Must have proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Must have excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written
  • Must be detail oriented and well organized
  • Must be able to work in a general office environment
  • Must be flexible and able to shift resources and priorities
  • Must be able to maintain a professional attitude even during stressful situations
  • Must be able to complete all assignments with minimal supervision
  • Should possess a strong commitment to providing excellent service to Truliant's members

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and stooping required
  • Must have ability to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer
  • Must be able to moderately lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds
  • Frequent travel within NC, VA and SC required for on-site support

Education and Background

  • Bachelor's degree or Associates degree in IT related field or 5+ years equivalent experience required in lieu of degree required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an IT Service Desk capacity is required
  • Proven field service experience required
  • Experience with advanced administration/support of virtualization technologies, specifically VMWare-based products required
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is required
  • CompTIA A+ and/or Network+ or industry standard laptop/desktop certification preferred
