Career Services at East Carolina University supports and empowers students in their career development to succeed as professionals in a global community. Career Services provides students with career development tools that assist them to become professionals. The department develops academic and co-curricular programs and services to enhance career readiness, leadership, and engagement. Career Services additionally conducts outreach to external groups which employ students in internship, cooperative education and full time career opportunities. These efforts support the departmental mission to prepare students for success beyond graduation from the university.
Job Duties
The Associate Director is a member of the Leadership Team which collaboratively works to provide leadership and vision in the establishment of policy and procedures to effectively deliver comprehensive career services specific to the area of Employer Relations for the university.

The Associate Director is responsible for establishing partnerships with new employers while maintaining existing relationships through strategic outreach. This role will implement and develop recruitment strategies and programs designed to enhance employer relationships with the university colleges, departments, students, faculty, and staff. The Associate Director will manage daily program operations, develop program policy/procedure, conduct program assessment and evaluation, manage fiscal administration and participate in strategic planning.

The Associate Director oversees the major programs of: on-campus recruitment (business and industry), employer relations strategic planning and implementation, cooperative education program, internship coordination, employer advisory board and corporate fund relations in assistance with the Director for the department.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee coordination of on-campus recruiting program including on campus interviews, information session, classroom presentations, networking events, career fairs, classroom visits, etc. throughout the university. Oversee and utilize career management database system.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to employer relations staff which may include EPA (non-faculty) and SPA staff, graduate assistants and student interns in employer relations.
  • Internship Coordination. Develop a strategy to increase internship opportunities and visibility among employers, students, university community and alumni. Assist employers in developing internship guidelines and structure to facilitate new internship opportunities. Serve as university liaison in creating a repository of available internships.
  • Oversees the Cooperative Education program campus wide. Partners with academic units to promote opportunities to students and develops Cooperative Education opportunities through employers.
  • Develop employer advisory board in order to build relationships between employers and the ECU community and facilitate increased employer interaction with ECU.
  • Establishes and maintains a database of cooperate contacts and campus recruiting events.
  • Develop and produce promotional and marketing materials for employers.
  • Provides direct support to counseling staff and work with faculty/college administrators to further enhance a central clearinghouse of learning opportunities.
  • Identify employer partners for active collaboration with the university through monetary program collaboration or sponsorships
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.


Employer Relations related duties include:
  • Participates in area and regional business associations and Chamber related recruitment activities.
  • Develops quality employment opportunities in private/public sectors; designs and implements marketing strategies; builds and maintains relationships.
  • Participates or oversees the coordination of career events and appropriate communications.
  • Oversees assessments, data tracking and analysis relative to employer outreach and employment related activities for students and employers.
  • Develops and manages the Employer Relations budget.
Minimum Education/Experience
Master's degree and three years of experience in hiring, recruitment, career development, workforce development, business management, etc. Two years minimum experience in supervision, management, budget planning, effective organization and human relations skills.

Ability to work well in a diverse environment.

Displays knowledge of hiring trends, work settings, undergraduate and graduate life and career counseling.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization with five years of experience hiring, recruitment, career development, workforce development, business management, etc. and three years of direct employer relations experience.

Evidence of strong organizational, administrative, and managerial skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Analytical ability to evaluate operations and client needs and develop programs responsive to those needs. Ability to conceptualize, design and implement innovative employer relations programs appropriate for all levels of students and alumni seeking careers in all sectors of employment.

Familiarity with technology, Handshake, Simplicity or other career services platforms. Knowledge and trends of effective and cutting-edge employer relations delivery models and ability to implement changes appropriate for ECU. Ability to communicate and market the services and programs of the Center to employers, students, faculty and administrators.
