Summary

The Maintenance & Engineering Manager provides vision, leadership, guidance and direction to the sites' maintenance and engineering teams. The leadership focus is on results regarding equipment availability and reliability, plant availability and overall maintenance costs. This position provides strategic leadership and directs the administration and continuity of the maintenance and Engineering programs at each site through direct reports.

Essential Functions

Ensure safe maintenance and engineering systems are established and respected

Leadership effectiveness in motivating and managing people as individuals and in teams. Provides direction to subordinates (front-line leaders) and is effective in coaching and developing others

Direct the overall activities to ensure effective interaction between engineering and maintenance functions

Lead long-term site wide maintenance and engineering planning including capital management and inventory control

Partners with human resources to hire, engage, and retain an effective mid-level and front-line leadership in the Maintenance and Engineering departments

Prepare and manage the sites' maintenance and engineering budget(s)

Partners with the Finance function to quantify, measure and report cost savings; works with the Finance function to quantify, measure and report project expenditures (and track budgeting effectiveness)

Justify new equipment or special tools for all areas

Work closely with EHS team to ensure compliance and maintenance for critical resources

Establish area goals and objectives and motivate to achieve targets

Monitor and control contract maintenance services

Ensure adequate training and development of all maintenance and engineering personnel

Provide leadership and oversight for special and major projects with Engineering

Ensure compliance with maintenance and engineering standards and procedures

Interact effectively and influentially with peer and senior Company leadership

Ensure maintenance and engineering planning and scheduling meet operational goals and objectives

Continuously review maintenance programs, preventative maintenance and predictive maintenance objectives.

Additional Responsibilities

Interact with operations and quality leadership teams at each site to eliminate bottlenecks, increase throughput, improve quality, facilitate employee engagement and increase customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

Competencies

People Management Skills - Effective as a senior leader in motivating, coaching and developing employees.

Conducts on-site review of engineering projects to ensure that work is conducted according to sound professional engineering principles and practices and meets applicable engineering design and construction standards.

Actively promotes and continually seeks changes that strategically move the business forward. Works with an open and flexible mind in considering change while having strong leadership presence to influence other leaders and individual contributors

Ability to develop and lead long range strategic plans

Principles of mechanical and/or electrical engineering

Project Management experience

General traits such as action oriented, conflict manager, decision maker, comprehensive listener, time manager and positive attitude.

Fundamental computer skills

SAP Experience strongly preferred

Possess excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, organizational, analytical, and problem skills.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in engineering (Electrical or Mechanical)

Experience in managing highly technical industrial environments

Minimum of 7 years relevant experience in a heavy industrial equipment facility.

3+ years' experience in leading a technical team

Special Skills

Ability to troubleshoot equipment/machinery

Effectively communicate with subordinate personnel to develop corrective actions plans

Utilize creative and technical input from all resources, including hourly, engineering and purchasing
