Position Summary:

Vallen's Data Engineer is an individual contributor responsible for installing, maintaining, and administering Vallen's systems infrastructure including hardware, operating platforms, software, routers, memory devices and various IT configurations. Data Engineers support the software that that operates and controls computer hardware and provides a platform for running end user applications. They write and/or install programs to maintain and control computer systems software, such as operating systems, telephony and networked systems, and database systems. They modify instruction sets that determine how the network, workstations, and central processing unit of a system handles various jobs and how the unit communicates with peripheral equipment. Data Engineers also assist with analyzing performance indicators to ensure the system is operating efficiently.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, install, recover and administer Vallen's systems infrastructure; ensure hardware computer components work together with current software; maintain operating systems.
  • Monitor overall system performance; proactively identify potential issues and perform required tuning activities as necessary to ensure optimal resource efficiencies.
  • Perform root cause analysis on failed components and implement corrective measures.
  • Conduct requirement gathering and analysis; perform technical research.
  • Develop and/or modify system software, scripts, and interfaces; write code using both lower-level and higher-level languages; translate machine languages for use on specific hardware.
  • Perform and support testing activities, software deployment, and maintenance activities.
  • Sets-up and administer system-level security.
  • Provide functional systems engineering and programming expertise while collaborating with other technical resources complete projects and achieve company objectives as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field, e.g., Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a combined discipline, coupled with 5+ years of relevant work experience.

Relevant experience should include:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of system, network and telephony architecture, configuration and security.
  • Demonstration of a mathematical aptitude; analytical and logical thinking competencies.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to translate non-technical needs into technical requirements and communicate effectively with non-technical coworkers.
  • Must be able to interpret technical documentation and carry out instruction furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed.
  • Strong organizational and execution skills.
