SVB's First Line of Defense Enhanced Due Diligence team supports the SVB Commercial Bank businesses in compliance and mitigation of risk associated with anti-money laundering (AML) as required by the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Sanctions Risk, and Reputational Risk.

You will report into the Program Management function of the team, which rolls up to the First Line of Defense Head of Enhanced Due Diligence and Sanctions Program for the Commercial Bank. The role will partner closely with the business and product areas and will liaise with the Second Line of Defense (SLOD) and technology partners.

The KYC and EDD Program Manager will drive multiple initiatives simultaneously and should have experience at leading and implementing cross-functional programs in areas of BSA / AML KYC, Fraud, and Risk at Large Financial Institutions. They will be a client-centric problem solver adept at designing and optimizing complex business processes, proficient at implementing and managing change, responsible for directing the design, development, and implementation of operational improvements to meet strategic business and organizational objectives. These initiatives will look to ensure changes are scalable and comply with all appropriate guidelines, including but not limited to regulatory compliance, risk management best-practices, and industry standards.


Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Manages multiple complex BSA/AML/Sanctions projects simultaneously and drives full life-cycle development and delivery of operational improvements from conception through launch.
  • Manages overall coordination, status reporting and stability of complex program-oriented work efforts and adheres to project management processes and methodologies to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet high quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Understands business needs and applications and applies these for competitive advantage.
  • Partners with the EDD/KYC Team and the business community to identify and prioritize opportunities for utilizing process reengineering to achieve the goals of the enterprise; Drives creation of and/or changes to existing processes, procedures, workflows, and related documentation.
  • Manages communication to Executives and other key stakeholders.
  • Manage overall coordination of cross-functional teams including EDD/KYC subject matter experts and their primary stakeholders from various departments across the organization (e.g., Compliance, Product Management, Operations, Internal Audit, Servicing, IT, Legal, Marketing, Sales, Training & Communication, Accounting, Finance, et.al.)
  • Acts as an advocate for all business stakeholders within the end-to-end EDD / KYC program processes, ensuring that their needs are understood and addressed in advance of launch.
  • Partners with Compliance, Internal Audit, and other departments to respond to examinations and audit requests, manage execution and implementation of action plans, and ensure all processes and changes implemented fully comply with applicable regulations and legislation, standards, policies, and guidelines (e.g., BSA, AML)
  • Authors business cases and estimates project costs and benefits (ROI, etc.)

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree with 4+ year(s) of experience in project management, business process engineering, and leadership of matrixed cross-functional teams with emphasis in systems integration, risk management, vendor management, Sanctions and AML / KYC program development, and management reporting OR High School Diploma or GED and 8+ year(s) of experience in project management, business process engineering, and leadership of matrixed cross-functional teams with emphasis in systems integration, risk management, vendor management, Sanctions and AML / KYC program development, and management reporting.

Skills and Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years experience in financial services, preferably commercial banking, and treasury services (FX, trade finance, cards, merchant services), with broad and deep expertise in related product development, operations, and client-servicing
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to quickly build trust and relationships, manage matrixed teams, bridge communication gaps, resolve conflicts, and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to quickly learn new products, lines of business, processes, software, systems, and client needs.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to quickly break down large, complex initiatives into logical, manageable work packages, tasks, and sub-tasks for execution.
  • Effective risk management skills and ability to predict and mitigate risks and issues, as well as anticipating and proactively preparing for changes and impacts to clients and SVB's business.
  • Expert at gap and root cause analysis; Familiar with root cause analysis tools and techniques
  • Polished diplomacy, active listening, persuasiveness, and presentation skills to evangelize new products or changes and gain buy-in, consensus, and cooperation in the face of conflicting viewpoints, resistance to change, constraints, etc.
  • Critical-thinking, business analysis, and process engineering skills to manage, contribute to, and foresee pitfalls in process-related deliverables.
  • Ability to collaborate, negotiate, influence, and build consensus across the organization.
