Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research seeks to improve the health of individuals, families, and populations by understanding the problems, issues, and alternatives in the design and delivery of health care services. This is accomplished through an interdisciplinary program of research, consultation, technical assistance, and training that focuses on timely and policy-relevant questions concerning the accessibility, adequacy, organization, cost, and effectiveness of health care services, and the dissemination of this information to policymakers and the general public. |
Position Summary | Post-doctoral traineeship. The research encompasses health services research, comparative effectiveness research and patient-centered outcomes research. Trainees are drawn from a variety of disciplines including Clinical Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Health Policy, Epidemiology, Sociology, Economics, Health Behavior, among others. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Clinical or research doctorate. Degree does not have to be completed at the time of application, but must be completed prior to starting the traineeship. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Candidates must have completed, or be on track for completing, a doctoral degree. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Interests and expertise appropriate for health services research are needed. Applicants who have completed their PhD's are expected to be proficient in research methods. Candidates with a clinical doctorate (MD, DDS, PharmD or equivalent) are not necessarily expected to have had prior research training and may matriculate toward a degree at UNC as part of their training. Interest in health policy, health services research and related areas are key of course. Ability to express complex concepts orally and in written communication is essential. |

If so, please provide degree sought, mo/yr expected, and discipline. d) What previous experience do you have in the field of health services research or health policy analysis? e) What is your objective in applying for this particular fellowship program?
