Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Epidemiology is one of the seven departments located in the Gillings School of Global Public Health. The department's primary focus is to the development and application of research methods to understand the patterns and causes of health and disease, and the application of that knowledge to improving the health of populations. We provide strong training in research methods and opportunities for the application of epidemiology to a wide range of health problems through our research. The achievements of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni have enabled us to become one of the leading academic departments of epidemiology in the world. The department has 38 Tenured-Tenure Track / 10 Joint Tenure-Track Faculty, 25 Fixed Term / 4 Joint Fixed Term Faculty, 115 Adjuncts, 22 EHRA Non-Faculty, 20 Postdocs, 46 SHRA (Staff), 29 SHRA Temporary and 202 Students. The department's operating budget is 27 million a year.
Position Summary
The successful applicant will work with Drs. Justin Lessler and Bethany DiPrete at UNC, in addition to Dr. Andrew Azman at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, as part of a highly collaborative team. Research will focus on merging molecular and epidemiological data to identify core units and pathways of cholera transmission throughout Africa and other cholera-endemic regions.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, computational biology, public health, or a related field
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Research experience in epidemiology, biostatistics, computational biology, public health, or a related field.

* Quantitative experience in epidemiology and statistics.

* Experience in the molecular epidemiology of infectious disease or the analysis of geospatial data.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Experience in writing packages in R and/or Python and familiarity with unit and integration testing and version control systems like Git.

* Experience in the management of large-scale research, scientific, medical, or academic projects.

* Programming experience in collaborative settings.

* Highly motivated, organized, and comfortable leading project staff to meet deadlines.

* Demonstrated competency in liaising between multiple project leads and institutions.
