Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Epidemiology is one of the seven departments located in the Gillings School of Global Public Health. The department's primary focus is to the development and application of research methods to understand the patterns and causes of health and disease, and the application of that knowledge to improving the health of populations. We provide strong training in research methods and opportunities for the application of epidemiology to a wide range of health problems through our research. The achievements of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni have enabled us to become one of the leading academic departments of epidemiology in the world. The department has 39 Tenured-Tenure Track /10 Joint Tenure-Track Faculty, 23 Fixed Term / 2 Joint Fixed Term Faculty, 120 Adjuncts, 19 EHRA Non-Faculty, 15 Postdocs, 34 SHRA (Staff), 29 SHRA Temporary and 181 students enrolled- 162 PhD and 19 MSCR. The department's operating budget is 27 million a year.
Position Summary
The Pharmacoepidemiology Program in the Department of Epidemiology, Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks candidates with a doctoral degree and strong training in pharmacoepidemiology to fill multiple post-doctoral positions. The selected individuals will support ongoing projects in pharmacoepidemiology methods and applied research. Examples of current projects include: development and use of linked electronic health records and insurance claims data to study treatment strategies; NIA funded methodological research on propensity scores and preventive drug use in older adults; and studies of COVID vaccine safety and effectiveness using real world data.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD or equivalent in epidemiology or related discipline. Degree does not have to be completed at the time of application but must be completed prior to starting the position.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The successful candidates will have training and experience in at least one of the following areas: 1) conducting research to evaluate analytic methods or design decisions through the use of simulation studies; 2) conducting research using electronic healthcare records or insurance claims data (prior expertise with Medicare and/or Marketscan claims is strongly preferred). The ability to express complex concepts orally and in written communication is essential.
