About the Department
NC State CVM prepares the next generation of veterinarians and veterinarian scientists, conducts bench and clinical research to solve animal and human health problems, addresses critical ecosystem and public health issues, helps protect the U.S. food supply, and promotes a clearer understanding and appreciation of the ramifications related to the growing human-animal bond that is at the center of these concerns.
Essential Job Duties
This position will assist faculty with research endeavors through management of research facilities (monitoring equipment, assisting with warranties and service, and assisting with training). This includes maintaining records and tracking expenditures for specialized systems and supplies, assisting with faculty move-in and move-out, and monitoring biosafety issues. The person in this position will also maintain security system for College of Veterinary Medicine buildings.

The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Maintain records and tracking expenditures related to DI water system, equipment repairs and new purchases along with miscellaneous research expenses incurred at the CVM.
  • Organize and facilitate college shared resources.
  • Assist in duties which help ensure accomplishment of research endeavors through management of research facilities (monitoring equipment, assisting with warranties and service, assisting with training, etc.)
  • Assist faculty with new laboratory set ups as well as lab closures, provide input on laboratory space assignment and shared space use.
  • Provide training and assistance on environmental health and research safety.
  • Work closely with university EHS employees and the College biosafety committee and facilitate faculty and staff compliance. Assist faculty and staff with development of laboratory safety plans.
  • Maintain security system for College of Veterinary Medicine buildings. Implement new policies, coordinate repairs to security system or doors to keep system functional.
  • Provide assistance to new research technicians on policies and information about research safety and techniques at the CVM including OSHA safety.
  • Participate in regular educational meetings for research staff and trainees and maintain research list serve for staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of general research experience preferably with supervision; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Familiarity with a variety of the research fields concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Experience with a wide range of research equipment and technology, understanding and appreciation of standard safety techniques.
  • Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Word programs (Word, Excel)
  • Problem solver with excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team
