Position Overview

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Women's Center is a space for students to receive confidential support, to empower them to work on issues related to women's leadership, gender equity, and gender-based violence on NCCU's campus. The NCCU Women's Center promotes the academic, personal and professional development, and the potential of women on campus. The center fosters a safe, respectful and equitable campus environment. The center is designed to help NCCU's women celebrate their strengths and realize their limitless potential.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Women' s Center Education Coordinator will serve as a key professional, providing educational and logistical support to broaden scope of influence the Women's Center has on meeting university goals for retention, and completion/graduation rates of women on campus. This role is essential in developing or facilitating learning experiences that broaden and strengthen students' identity, and preparedness to operate as informed citizens upon and beyond graduation.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to conduct educational programs and training workshops;
  • Familiarity with higher education trends and practices;
  • Familiarity with best practices related to intimate partner violence & policy development, and victim advocacy preferred;
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of students and colleagues; an understanding or experience working with HBCU populations preferred;
  • Proficient computer skills; and demonstrated project coordination skills including comfort with operational software
  • Ability to seek, receive and implement training, feedback and supervision reliably and consistently.
  • Available to work some nights and/or weekends.

Minimum Education/Experience
  • A bachelor's degree in public health, public administration, education, or higher education or an equivalent. Master's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with coaching, and designing curriculum for college-aged students
  • Demonstrated experience with program/project management

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Function Administrative
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
  • Primary facilitator for women-focused programs and activities.
  • This includes leading standing workshops linked to other university programs designed to as restorative education.
  • Providing instruction to students, faculty, staff and parents through workshops and presentations around affirmative consent, healthy relationships, and gender equality.
  • Planning and implementing social activities on and off campus

Function Administrative
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
  • Provide day-to-day project management including education and coordination of efforts/services that support the needs of women students on our campus.
  • Oversight of external projects/collaborations related to intimate partner violence (including partnership grants, 'me too' HBCU, etc.)
  • Serve as department/unit representative of on cross-campus collaborations, including enrollment related activities such as open houses, orientation, etc.
  • Participate on ad hoc inter-disciplinary committees on campus related to safety.
Function Administrative
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
  • Develop and maintain systems to collect data that measure program results for the Women's Center, to be used and reported as appropriate to units including and external to the Division of Student affairs.

  • Provide support and coaching to student workers, volunteers and perform operational tasks of Center designed for professional staff of the university.
