Primary Purpose of Department
The Office of University Development's primary purpose is to build philanthropic relationships that engage alumni, donors, students, faculty and the community in supporting the University's mission. These efforts include working closely with the donors, governing boards, alumni, friends, community members, foundations and corporations to increase private giving to the University. The Office of University Development is within the division of University Advancement.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Donor Experience Officer (DXO) under the direction of the Associate Director of Annual Giving will enhance alumni engagement and encourage philanthropic support towards UNC Charlotte. The DXO will have responsibility for discovering, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding leadership annual giving donors, as well as building and enhancing the pipeline of major gift donors. The DXO is expected to demonstrate passion for UNC Charlotte and a desire to make an impact on the future of the institution.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
  • Work with the Leadership Annual Giving team to implement digital engagement and solicitation strategies in order to improve both the breadth and depth of alumni engagement and enhance future efforts with alumni.
  • Responsible for managing a portfolio of current donors and potential prospects.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of contacts, call reports, stewardship activities and prospect status in order to demonstrate the results of his/her efforts.
  • Proactively monitor engagement to identify and launch initiatives that drive interest and donations.
  • Leverage technology and virtual communication tools to build relationships with constituents and enhance donor engagement.
  • Execute 40 daily outbound contacts to university prospects via virtual meetings, phone calls, emails and video outreach.
  • Achieve clear retention and reactivation goals. Develop strong relationships with the development team and unit major gift officers in order to provide referrals and further develop the donor pipeline.
  • Assist annual giving in pursuing the fundraising goals and additional projects as assigned by the Director.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 1 year experience in fundraising or sales.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Fundraising experience, preferably within higher education, with skills in both one-to-one donor cultivation and solicitation.
  • Team oriented style and a deep desire and experience in collaborating with others.
  • Exceptional people skills with the ability to be insightful, responsive, creative and engaging.
  • The ability to work independently and be self-motivated in initiating contacts with donors and potential donors.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including a high level of attention to detail and active listening skills.
  • Excellent computer, social media and technology skills required. Ability to adapt to evolving technologies as necessary.
