Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director's Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department's guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition. |
Position Summary |
This is a 2-year time-limited position. The Production Associate in Go Heels Productions is responsible for assisting with production needs for live events being produced by the unit. These include ESPN/ACC Network broadcasts as well as in-venue productions. These positions will assist the Coordinating Producer in all aspects of broadcasts. This includes pre-production, graphics, replay, camera set, strike and operation and other needs. In addition to preparing for broadcasts, this position will fill production roles for broadcasts as needed - these could include technical direction, graphics production, replay operation, and others. These positions will be responsible for managing staff and broadcast for lower level productions for ACC Network when needed. Additionally, the Content Associates may be assigned other administrative tasks within the unit when required. The Production Associates will report to the Coordinating Producer, who is responsible for all live broadcast projects within the department. The Production Associates will work with the Coordinating Producer, Broadcast Engineer, Event Producer, Graphics Producer and others required to coordinate both the creative and technical needs of broadcasts. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in a broadcast television, radio and emerging media environment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Substantial experience working in live sports broadcast; can include time as an undergraduate student. Experience working a variety of broadcast positions including camera operation, technical direction, graphics, replay, and/or audio roles. Ability to quickly make decisions and communicate those decisions during broadcasts. Thorough understanding of the technical aspects of the broadcast including routing, switching and transmission. Basic videography, editing and scriptwriting skills. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Multi-discipline experience in sports broadcast production. Ability to teach students interested in pursuing a broadcast career. |

Special Physical/Mental Requirements | Must be able to lift/move 25 lbs or greater. May be required to navigate stairs. Must be able to manage a high-volume, fast-paced environment. Attention to detail essential. May be requried to work evenings, nights and weekends as assigned. |
