About the Department
Interdisciplinary Affairs and Partnerships (IAP) is a unit within NC State University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences. IAP is home to Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS): six majors/major concentrations with more than 500 students in Africana Studies, Arts Studies, International Studies, Self-Design, Science, Technology, and Society, and Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies. IDS also offers 8 undergraduate minors, 3 undergraduate dual-degree honors programs, and 1 graduate program. IDS has core faculty and faculty directors/coordinators who work in partnership with departments from our college and others to deliver the courses in each program. IAP actively partners with departments and programs on campus and in the Triangle, to host events including speakers and conferences in support of the programs several times during the school year. IAP works closely with the Dean's office to provide programming and establish and review policies governing interdisciplinary collaborations.

Essential Job Duties
Candidates will be hired as a non-tenure track Lecturer or Teaching Assistant Professor based on credentials/qualifications.

The successful candidate(s) will teach undergraduate courses and advise undergraduate students in a specific discipline in Interdisciplinary Studies: Science, Technology, and Society. This will include our introductory course to Science, Technology and Society as well as topics courses like "Contemporary Science, Technology" and "Human Values, and Ethical Dimensions of Progress." Additional experience with Environmental Ethics is welcome.

The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. The successful candidate(s) will prepare their own syllabi and will be expected to hold office hours and other class-related duties.

The appointment will be for one academic year with the possibility of renewal.
Other Responsibilities
Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Interdisciplinary Affairs and Partnerships.
Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
Lecturer applicants must have a master's degree, or equivalent qualifications in the required field of instruction.

Assistant Teaching Professor applicants must have a doctoral degree or equivalent qualifications in a required field of instruction.
Other Required Qualifications
  • The candidate must demonstrate skills in teaching and facilitating research with a variety cross-section of students.
  • Ability to offer substantial course content in person and online.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary subject matter.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to engage in proactive style of student advising.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Science, Technology, and Society or a related field.
  • Experience teaching at the university level.
