  • Health Science - Grade 5-8 - Week of August 5-9, 2024

Required to submit 2 references which must be from a current or previous supervisor.

Must successfully pass a criminal background check and complete and pass an on-line training with a grade of 80 or higher for Minors on Campus training - prior to starting assignment.

*Temporary staff employees are ineligible to receive benefits (leave, health coverage, State service credit, etc.). They are, however, covered by Worker's Compensation provisions.

However, any non-permanent employee hired to work 30 or more hours per week for three months or more (cumulative of all positions, and not designated as variable hour worker), must be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, within 30 days of their eligibility. Any non-permanent employee hired to work less than 30 hours per week (cumulative of all positions, or designated as variable hour worker - i.e. student workers) are measured during designated measurement periods. If they average 30 or more hours per week over a designated measurement period, they will be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, and will be notified of instructions.

  • Health Science - Grade 5 - 8 - Week of August 5-9, 2024
    • Inspire your curious 5th-8th graders to explore rewarding careers in healthcare at our Health Science summer camp. Dive into the exciting world of medicine, studying nutrition, health advocacy, human anatomy, and physiology. Campers will get hands-on with real-life healthcare skills, learning to measure blood pressure, use a stethoscope, and more!

Pay Rate $1300/week
Minimum Experience/Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Experience teaching and/or mentoring youth, teens or young adults
  • Demonstrated experience in effective communication with parents and families
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution strategies
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check- required to complete Youth Protection Training
  • Must be available for mandatory orientation training (Virtual Date TBD) prior to camp season
  • Knowledge and/or training in the content area of the camp


Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
**First Aid/CPR certification
** NC teaching licensure
** Background working in a Summer Camp environment
**Proficiency in utilizing advanced features of the Google Suite, showcasing a high level of competency in digital tools and collaboration platforms


Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop engaging and well-organized lesson plans spanning the specific five-day camp topic, fostering active and experiential learning. Integrate creative elements into the curriculum, possibly incorporating a field trip, contingent upon schedule and transportation logistics.
  • Collate a comprehensive list of necessary supplies, ensuring approval for stipend of supply purchases.
  • Cultivate a positive, patient, and enthusiastic demeanor, emphasizing a dedicated commitment to fostering a supportive environment for children and youth.
  • Implement dynamic teaching strategies that blend education with enjoyment, ensuring a camp experience that is both informative and FUN for participants.
  • Effectively address and manage conflicts and disciplinary issues, employing proficient problem-solving and communication skills. Keep the Program Director promptly informed about significant matters concerning campers.
  • Leverage Camp Counselors to assist in executing engaging and educational activities, maximizing the overall learning experience.
  • Exhibit professionalism, accountability, and adept interpersonal skills consistently when interacting with campers, fellow staff members, and parents.
  • Participate in mandatory live training session conducted via Zoom to stay updated on best practices and enhance skills.


Other Work/Responsibilities
  • Must demonstrate the following personal and professional traits; Maturity, Responsibility, Accountability, Enthusiasm, Creativity, Patience, Leadership, Interpersonal Communication Skills, and passion for working with minors.
  • Must successfully pass a Criminal Background Check

  • Ability to independently use stairs for safe evacuation during emergencies
