Overview

The Center for Official Statistics in RTI's Analytics Practice Area seeks a Senior Research Statistician to provide multifaceted technical and scientific leadership for significant survey research, proposals, and projects. The successful candidate will have a proven record of leading complex projects and large teams, providing subject matter expertise in survey statistics, leveraging or developing new methodologies to drive innovation, and catering to a diverse business portfolio. Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Recognized as an expert by scientific and peer community or across a broad group of clients, primarily from federal statistical agencies. Provide technical coordination and assume the lead role, when requested, for Practice Area objectives.
  • Perform assignments as project director (PD) / principal investigator (PI) or task leader (TL) on client-funded projects.
  • Publish scientific literature related to projects, survey methods, and survey statistics.
  • Design and develop research to address key scientific issues.
  • Lead business development activities, thus contributing to the expansion of the Institute's project portfolio and research capabilities. Provide scientific leadership to proposals and business development efforts.
  • Generate business opportunities by leveraging existing work for future work and through networking, professional relationships, and reputation as an expert in the field.
  • Highly engaged mentor of staff.
  • Through careful review of reports, literature and other data, maintain an up-to-date, comprehensive understanding of the latest developments in survey statistics.
  • Actively participate in committee work of professional societies, working with people outside the Institute.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • PhD with at least 12 years of relevant experience, Master's degree with at least 16 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree with 20 years of relevant experience. Relevant degree areas include Statistics, Survey Methodology, and Sociology.
  • Expertise in Survey Statistics, with significant publications related to survey statistics.
  • Working knowledge of at least one statistical programming language, preferably SAS or R.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple obligations / deadlines and to effectively prioritize these tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the stress associated with frequent, multiple, tight and competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse set of colleagues and clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, as demonstrated through technical reports, proposals, scientific publications, and presentations.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
