The Claims Handler is responsible for all aspects of designated workers compensation claim portfolio through claim life cycle, performing role within established KPIs and employing best handling practices and internal strategies. Objective is to best manage and reduce risk exposure regarding claims and to minimize the negative impact on the company's bottom line. Handle claim portfolio while upholding company values and supporting all stakeholders throughout the claim process.

Key responsibilities

  • Facilitate, handle and manage individual workers' compensation claims for full life cycle, including:
    • Proper claim reporting
    • Obtain and manage file documentation
    • Assist in investigation
    • Determine/authorize claim strategy
    • Analyze the merit of claims, support strategy to resolve claim, and follow general standard operating procedures
    • Effectively communicate with injured worker regarding injury, care, return to work and attendance
    • Oversee medical care direction and interface with providers
    • Manage return to work process with expedience, interfacing with facility, HR, Legal and employee
    • RMIS maintenance - file setup and documentation; perform monthly reconciliations
    • Pursue and secure lien recoveries
  • Handle claims in alignment with program goals and objectives
  • Prepare and analyze data and produce effective and regular claim reports for stakeholders
  • Schedule and attend claim review meetings
  • Provide training to Operations on needed topics
  • Support claim processes and procedures; work on improvement of SOPS
  • Work with, contribute and collaborate with Global Risk Management team on annual projects and ad hoc projects
  • Assist in acquisition integrations
  • Support implementation of approved risk management initiatives
  • Supports commitment to safety and other selected company standards and certifications

Required qualification, experience & skills

  • Minimum 5 years work experience in claims administration/oversight, preferably or related experience; or Bachelor's degree with one year of related claims experience or a combination of education and experience previously listed.
  • In-depth knowledge of workers' compensation claims
  • Detail-oriented person with strong organizational skills
  • Self-starter with capability to handle most situations independently
  • Ability to conduct objective analyses/assessment of claims
  • Excellent advocacy and negotiating skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with individuals at all working levels
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office Products (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and the ability to quickly grasp and work with new systems
  • Proficiency in graphing is preferred
