JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the SVP, Finance and Accounting, the VP, Global Controller will oversee all aspects of BioCryst's financial reporting and accounting processes. The role will lead the team in implementation and identification of process improvements and optimization of our business processes across the Company to ensure scalability and efficiency. Serving as a key member BioCryst's Finance Leadership Team, this role is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate financial results while ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced individual looking to continue to develop and work in a fast-paced, dynamic biotech environment. This position requires an in-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and public company financial reporting and internal controls requirements. This position will lead the coordination with external and internal auditors and partner with business stakeholders. This position is fully remote. #LI-Remote

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage a global accounting staff of approximately 30 (direct and indirect) whose activities include Global Monthly close processes and procedures, General accounting, Revenue, Cost Accounting, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Billing and Collections, International Accounting including statutory audits, filings and compliance and executing on key internal controls.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements that will enhance efficiency, internal controls, enable timely business decisions and shorten the time to close.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to recommend system improvements or integrations to enable improved financial reporting or analyses.
  • Ensure process and people are in place to deliver timely and accurate monthly financial statements.
  • Establish and monitor strong internal controls across the organization.
  • Direct and lead accounting teams in the development, implementation and oversight of company-wide accounting policies and controls consistent with SEC, US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
  • Work closely with the SVP, Finance and Accounting and CFO on presenting materials for the Audit Committee.
  • Manage relationship and reporting matters with the audit firm and interface effectively with external and internal audit resources to resolve complex accounting and auditing issues.
  • Work closely with the External Reporting team to support external reporting requirements.
  • Optimize the team organizational structure. Coach, develop and inspire others.
  • Oversee an international accounting team responsible for Statutory filings, audits, and accounting.
  • Participate and collaborate with Company programs, projects, and objectives which require extensive communication, change management, and interactions with other finance leaders (e.g., FP&A, investor relations) and the CFO, as well as other functional leaders.
  • Responsible for departmental operating budgets and preparation of Board level and management reports.
  • Support analysis of key business development initiatives and partnerships from an accounting perspective.
  • Be a key team member in identifying and managing areas of enterprise risk.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 15+ years of work experience in corporate accounting in roles of increasing responsibility
  • 5+ years' experience in leadership role in a global, public company leading managers of managers and teams of more than 20 people.
  • Active CPA license and Big 4 public accounting experience required (Senior Manager level).
  • Biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Experience in a publicly traded, commercial company with international operations
  • Ability to train, mentor and motivate team members
  • Experience leading and driving process improvements
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build cross-functional relationships to drive business results
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work and communicate effectively at all levels within and external to the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and to establish and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working in Oracle Fusion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word and PowerPoint and significant experience using Excel
