OVERVIEW:

Job Title: Carpenter

Location: Beaufort, South Carolina / Parris Island

Job Type: Full Time

Work Schedule: Monday - Saturday, some Sundays based on project schedule

Performance Evaluated by: Foreman, Superintendent, Project Manager

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Cut, fit, and join construction materials.
  • Operate power construction equipment.
  • Perform basic carpentry
  • Plan, lay-out, and use appropriate hand tools and power tools to properly measure, cut, assemble, and install forms, rebar, embeds and anchor bolts.
  • Construct built-in-place or prefabricated wooden and metal forms, according to specifications for molding concrete structures.
  • Erect built-in-place forms or assemble and install prefabricated forms
  • Insert spreaders and tie-rods between opposite pieces to maintain specific dimensions
  • Anchor and brace forms to fixed objects using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks, and timber
  • Follow jobsite safety regulations and keep your work area safe and clean. Identify all potential safety hazards. Eliminate or minimize all identified hazards.
  • Full cooperation with Superintendent, Foreman, and Sub-Contractors
  • Finish tasks on time
  • Produce high quality work
  • Setting of different forms for all aspects of concrete placement
  • Follow jobsite safety regulations and keep your work area safe and clean. Identify all potential safety hazards. Eliminate or minimize all identified hazards.

EDUCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be able to obtain and maintain security clearance to access the military base
  • Rebar experience a plus
  • familiar with elevations
  • Taking instructions & helpful in giving proper directions to inexperienced crew members
  • Experience with heavy equipment is a plus
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a journeyman carpenter
  • Proficient at
    • Reading Engineer Rule
    • Reading blueprints
    • Setting forms from cutting fills provided
    • Setting string line for forms and machine control
  • Proficient with
    • Sledge Hammers
    • Rock Drills
    • Pin Hammer
    • Pin Puller

COMMUNCIATION SKILLS: Must be able to comprehend safety standards, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to understand information, ideas, direction and perform the task or project discussed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to work overhead
  • Ability to use hands to grasp
  • Ability to reach with arms
  • Ability to move in and around confined and cluttered places and uneven areas
  • Ability to repeatedly stoop, kneel, squat, crawl, and twist throughout the workday and week
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or push/pull up to 30 pounds up to 50 feet
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 30 pounds up to 3 feet off the ground
  • Occasionally lift and/or push/pull approximately 112 pounds up to 25 feet
  • Occasionally lift approximately 112 lbs. to a surface approximately 12 inches off the ground
  • Ability to repeatedly operate a 12lb sledgehammer throughout the entire workday and week
  • Ability to climb up to 25feet, step and balance onto scaffolding
  • Ability to work up to a 12-hour shift in all weather and temperature extremes
  • Vision adequate to perform all tasks

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment as needed to perform job tasks
  • Employee is regularly exposed to noise, dust, and various types of smells
  • Employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles.
  • Employee must be able to properly use and handle toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Employee is regularly exposed to wet, hot, and/or humid conditions, and outside weather conditions
  • Employee is expected to work in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining a clean work area
  • Employee must be able to work in high precarious places
