Overview

The Corporate Controller will have responsibility for overseeing all corporate accounting operations, supervising monthly close, preparing consolidated financial statements, technical accounting research and whitepaper development, as well as financial compliance activities.


This role will report to the CFO and requires a blend of strong leadership, communication, and technical skills as well as the ability to think and convey both macro or micro accounting and finance concepts in a succinct, effective fashion.


Responsibilities

  • Planning, directing, and leading all corporate accounting activities, including supervising General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable activities.
  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of financial data to ensure accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
  • Conducting a thorough review of the monthly accounting close process, including analytic review of monthly operating results to maintain precise accounting records and drive process efficiencies.
  • Prioritizing and implementing accounting best practices, tools and/or AI to drive optimal ROI and minimization of barriers to execution.
  • Working with FP&A team and department managers to develop annual overhead budgets and preparing quarterly expense forecasts.
  • Recruiting, developing, and retaining top-tier staff that includes Assistant Controllers, managers and staff level accountants.
  • Assist with Financial Due Diligence, purchase accounting and post-acquisition integration activities.
  • Reviewing high risk, material or complex journal entries.
  • Reviewing high risk or complex account reconciliations.
  • Ensuring adequate support and timely completion of annual financial statement and overhead audit, in collaboration with the external CPA firm.
  • Pro-actively assessing current accounting operations and proposing improvements, implementing new processes as needed.
  • Evaluating accounting and internal control systems for effectiveness.
  • Reviewing the efficiency of accounting software and supporting databases, making necessary adjustments.
  • Overseeing regulatory and internal control reporting; tax and SOX compliance.
  • Undertaking special projects and analysis as required by the CFO.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent; Active CPA required.
  • Minimum 15+ years of related accounting experience within the AEC space for organizations with revenues in excess of $200M.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles, including US GAAP and internal control best practices (eg. SOX).
  • Financial/M&A Due Diligence, purchase accounting and post-acquisition integration support.
  • Experience in cost accounting, overhead rates and working knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) or AASHTO guidance (preferred).
  • Familiarity with large multi-company multi-currency ERP systems.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proven track record of leading process improvement and change management initiatives.
  • Demonstrated leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
