Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The UNC-Chapel Hill Department of History is one of the largest academic departments within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department is committed to the purposes of a research university, to the teaching of history at the undergraduate level as a core discipline in a liberal arts education, and to the training of graduate students. |
Position Summary | The Department of History at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in South Asian history since the 18th century. Responsibilities include the teaching of two courses per semester in South Asian History and related fields of thematic research expertise. We welcome applications from candidates whose work aligns with our departmental mission of historical research, teaching, and public service as described on our website (https://history.unc.edu/about-us/). Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in history or a related field of South Asian Studies by July 1, 2024. Applications should include 1) a cover letter that summarizes the applicant's interests in research, teaching, and historical service; 2) a current CV; and 3) the names and contact information for four references. The review of applications will begin on January 1, 2024 and continue until the position is filled. |
