About the Department | The turfgrass management lab is directed by Dr. Qiyu Zhou, which a new turfgrass research group in the Crop and Soil Sciences Department at North Carolina State University. We aim to develop and improve turfgrass management strategies that improve resource (i.e., fertilizer, water, and pesticide) use efficiency and create more sustainable turfgrass systems. We are interested in using remote sensing to monitor turfgrass performance and predict turfgrass performance and resource needs with machine learning models. Crop & Soil Sciences is a Department with diverse disciplines that encompass research, extension and teaching related to soil science and theory and the genetic improvement, production and utilization of agronomic and turf-grass crops. Research in basic and applied science and the engagement and technology transfer to public and private sector practitioners. |
Essential Job Duties | The Research Technician will assist in planning and conducting turfgrass management-related research, encompassing fertility, irrigation, and cultivation under field and/or greenhouse conditions. To accomplish this, the research technician is anticipated to generate and analyze datasets, including turfgrass performance and soil conditions, utilizing conventional evaluation methods and remote sensing strategies. Furthermore, the research technician will contribute to scientific publications for communicating research findings and have the chance to advance professionally by mentoring students, composing manuscripts, or preparing grant proposals. The turfgrass management lab is looking for an independent and motivated research technician who can help establish the lab and contribute to the scientific trajectory of our new research group. The research technician will help to build the lab and conduct experiments in the turfgrass research field, laboratory, and greenhouse to understand turfgrass growth under various environmental conditions and management practices. |
