SUMMARY

The responsibility of an Estimator includes specification review and complete project estimate of Environmental Specialties product in a pre-bid / proposal situation. They will provide total pricing information for use in the bid process. An Estimator will prepare budgets, complete equipment and labor take-offs of pre-bid design layouts and will be responsible to assist the Sales Product Specialists in the estimate transfer for awarded projects. An Estimator will also provide specific costing information for transfer upon project award to the Project Management team. This information will be used directly in submittal formulation and job costing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities include the following, but others may be assigned:

  • Review incoming bids and customer work sheets based on workload selected.
  • Complete the project specification review and request additional information as needed through the Product Sales Specialist from Architects, General Contractors and Owners.
  • Be responsible to compile a detailed project estimate based on the requirements of the project specifications.
  • Interface with Engineers, Project Managers, Subcontractors, and Vendors for equipment pricing and labor sources.
  • Be responsible to compile the estimate in an organized and accurate manner for final review.
  • Be responsible for maintaining a current and accurate database of equipment and labor pricing to include current catalog literature, data sheets, and equipment pricing sheets for the Sales Department.
  • When awarded a job, complete an accurate project estimate to the Sales Product Specialist for transfer to Project Management.

QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years' experience estimating or performing job cost analysis on mechanical or electrical projects.
  • Ability to review and interpret project specifications.
  • Ability to review and perform take-offs of related environmental chamber scopes on project plans.
  • 5-10 years of Electrical/mechanical field experience or equivalent is preferred.

PREFERRED SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Requires accuracy and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluent in computer operations including all Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, etc.).
  • Job may require bid preparation on weekends and after hours.
  • Job may require some site visit travel.
  • Knowledge of electrical and refrigeration systems.
  • Knowledge of duct layout and sizing.
  • Electrical/mechanical experience as a Project Manager or in HVAC Service is preferred.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical clean room design is preferred.
  • Familiarity of chill water piping and components is preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Must demonstrate intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, (i.e., Outlook, Project, Word).
  • Must demonstrate advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to commute to field locations to accurately perform takeoffs. The employee must have the ability to navigate around job site location.
