To strengthen our RWE department, based in our headquarters in Brussels area, Belgium, or in our offices RTP, NC, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of RWE Engagement & Policy Lead. We offer a hybrid working model.

As the RWE Engagement & Policy Lead you will provide leadership to the global RWE Engagement and Policy strategy and build stakeholder trust in RWE, by:

  • continuously monitoring and evaluating the external environment;
  • coordinating and driving both internal and external activities that will help increase trust and acceptance of UCB's RWE generation and
  • supporting the RWE team and UCB to build momentum towards common acceptance of RWE as part of the evidence base available to inform healthcare decision making.

Your major responsibilities toward External Engagement are:

  • Co-create the external engagement strategy together with the RWE LT
  • Map and maintain oversight of all relevant RWE external engagement activities, distills those that have most value or biggest potential, define criteria for prioritization and design concrete proposals for engagement in those activities
  • Proactively identify and evaluates opportunities to generate RWE designed to inform internal and external decision making
  • Lead specific RWE external engagement activities primarily supporting the translation of the vision of the global RWE team
  • Select appropriate initiatives and determine UCB's role (observer, participant or leader), coordinate and communicate with team members and stakeholders accordingly
  • Build and maintain a mapping of key stakeholders and key opinion leaders (KOLs) in the RWE space and, if valuable, build relationship with them
  • Attract influential partners with shared goals whose advocacy creates momentum for change
  • Identify and summarize "hot topics" in the RWE space (e.g. white papers) and translate into impactful opportunities for UCB

Internally, you will contribute by:

  • Working closely with the RWE Innovation Hub, RWE Strategy Leads and other RWE colleagues, to identify topics of interest for external partnerships and collaborations
  • Becoming the go-to person for External Engagement related questions or activities and providing direction to internal colleagues and stakeholders wherever needed
  • Providing the "outside-in" perspective to the team, by informing the team of any important relevant activities and changes related to RWE in the healthcare ecosystem; translate these changes in the healthcare system to opportunities for the team.
  • Coordinating public commenting processes internally, distilling and consolidating the comments from relevant UCB stakeholders
  • Driving internal communications related to achievements, opportunities and threats ensuring relevant stakeholders are informed
  • Building internal collaborations and driving synergies to enhance our external engagement strategy
  • Ensuring all information is accessible to the team and stakeholders at all times (knowledge management)

Interested? For this position you'll need the following education, experience and skills:

  • Master Degree; Epidemiological, HEOR, statistical, medical degrees are favorable.
  • 5+ years' Experience (minimum 3); Comprehensive understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of RWE methods and RWD gained through the successful application of observational research methods, principles of evidence-based medicine and multi-stakeholder (regulator, payer) healthcare decision making. Gained from within industry or at a recognized expert consultancy or academic centre of excellence.
  • Desirable Experience: Experience playing a leading role in relevant cross-industry partnerships such as IMI projects, interest groups and task forces organized by relevant professional societies.

  • Technical expertise/Skills:
    • Good background knowledge of industry trends and best practices, specifically related to epidemiology/outcomes research
    • Good knowledge and understanding of good practice guidelines impacting the generation of real-world evidence
    • Ability to translate changes in the healthcare system into relevant updates to the team
  • Problem solving:
    • Ability to analyze rapidly and assimilate facts quickly while minimizing personal bias
    • High commitment to quality and constantly seeking for improvement
    • Ability to prioritize among large volumes of diverse projects and activities
    • Demonstrated professional maturity in stressful situations or conflicts
    • Organized and structured with a logical approach to issues raised
    • Ability to manage projects within agreed timelines and budgets
  • Communication and engagement
    • Excellent and effective oral/written skills in English
    • Ability to distinguish noise from signal and provide focused and concise summaries
    • Ability to deliver presentations and reports to different audiences (team, senior management, industry, ...) and ability to adapt presentation content and style accordingly
    • Apply storytelling to engage different audiences
    • Ability to work cross-functional within multinational teams to generate "buy-in" and align stakeholders on decisions while generating enthusiasm for the agreed path forward
    • Ability to work successfully with other internal and external SME's such as Regulatory Affairs, Patient Access, affiliate colleagues, Access Leads, vendors, consultants and academics across different countries
    • Ability to act as an ambassador for RWE
