Position Description

  
HATCHERY/POULT DELIVERY DRIVER

Job Summary
To safely transport poults from hatcheries to farms, utilizing care to ensure the birds are not harmed.  
 
Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities
 
  • Inspect truck daily to verify all systems are functioning properly
  • Compare shipping record with delivery ticket to verify proper number of poults in transfer
  • Load truck in accordance with the shipping order to keep poults from each farm separate during transfer
  • Place poults into trucks using designated dollies or loading individual boxes manually
  • Install poles between stacks in order to ensure proper airflow and prevent boxes from falling into each other
  • Maintain the interior of the truck between 75 and 78 degrees at all times
  • Unload trucks at designated house per instructions of farm manager, includes placing poults into proper enclosures
  • Reload empty boxes and return them to the hatchery
  • Leave shipping record with the specified person upon completion of daily pick up
  • Place empty boxes in the assigned area at the hatchery
  • The inside and outside of truck must be thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis using specified chemical disinfectants to prevent contamination
  • Drive to farms following all DOT regulations
 
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
 
  • Ability to operate a commercial box truck with exact maneuverability
  • Must be knowledgeable in all DOT regulations regarding operation of a commercial vehicle
  • Basic reading, writing and mathematical comprehension
 
 
Education & Experience
Valid CDL in North Carolina with a clean record
1 year of Over the Road experience preferred
 
Physical Demands
Lift up to 50lbs repetitively, sitting for long periods, standing, bending, twisting, and maneuvering within narrow pathways between poult isles on truck
 
Work Environment
Working with little supervision while driving to assigned farms often in severe temperatures throughout seasonal changes
