Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Nursing emerges from the challenge to meet the manpower needs for quality health care locally, nationally, and globally. The role and scope of the Department of Nursing are reflected in the characteristics of selected learning environments and their ability to enhance individual productivity in a changing society. The Department of Nursing provides essential service to improve the quality of life for all people through quality educational programs research and scholarly endeavors, and community service.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Assistant/Associate Professor position will teach nursing courses and develop instructional material related to area assigned. The Assistant Professor will evaluate student clinical performance according to established criteria and course objectives. In addition, the Assistant Professor will perform related duties such as advising students on academic curricula, formal and informal instruction, counseling students, original work or research, preparation of new courses, and serve on various campus and community committees.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Commitment to diversity and inclusion in fulfillment of the university’s mission; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; excellent analytical skills and reasoned judgment; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others; candidate must have at least three years of clinical experience in Adult Health or Maternity nursing; candidate must have at least three years of teaching experience in Adult Health or Maternity nursing.
Minimum Education/Experience
The Associate Professor position requires an earned doctorate in nursing or health related field; Masters in Nursing with specialty in Adult Health or Maternity.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
The Associate Professor position requires an unrestricted North Carolina RN license.
